Finalists in LabourStart’s Labour Video of the Year Contest

LabourStart, the international labor news and campaigning site has just announced the six finalists in its first Labour Video of the Year contest. All of these our outstanding and deserve wide distribution.  A panel of cinema experts selected these six from the over 200 videos were entered in the contest.  The winner will be decided by a public vote.   Take a look and then vote. If you are like me, you’ll have a hard time making up your mind.

3. VALE INCO’S CEO Roger Fuhrer Loses His Fight…

A satirical look behind the scenes of Vale Incos management group as they do battle with the Local 6500 United Steel Workers Union. The strike has lasted 6 months and counting. Vale has weathered a recession and through it all has continued to be profitable, yet it demands concessions form workers. The workers have resisted these concessions and is locked in an epic battle with the greedy multinational.

This short documentary follows the daily struggles of two janitors at a North American university. The film takes a critical look at the communication, or lack of communication, that happens between janitors and those that use the facilities they clean. Shot at Capilano University, in North Vancouver, BC, Canada.

5. CUPE 3903 Strike Ads [Canada]

These spoof ads were independently produced by graduate students in film and theater at York University during the CUPE 3903 strike of 2008/09. These individuals were not paid to specifically produce these ads.
