National Nurses Union Formed

After eight months in the planning, delegates from across the nation gathered in Phoenix Monday, December 7 for the founding convention of the new 150,000-member National Nurses United — the largest RN union and professional association in U.S. history. Three nurses unions merged to form the NNU. The president elect is Deborah Burger of the California Nurses Association.

The new National Nurses United, comprised of union locals from Maine to Hawaii, will use its strength to fight for patients’ rights, higher healthcare standards and better working conditions for nurses.
