YDS mobilizes to participate in protests during National Student Debt Week, Feb.27- March 2, across the country. Over 170 members of the Young Democratic Socialists met in New York City along with Dr. Cornel West over the weekend of Feb.17-19, and planned their participation in the escalation of protests during National Student Debt Week.
Cornel West wants you to join the Week of Action. http://vimeo.com/37209329
Student debt exceeded $1 Trillion in 2011- exceeding even U.S. credit card debt. For too many students access to college is being closed by unsustainable debt burdens. College tuition and fees have quadrupled fro 1982- 2007, far exceeding the rate of inflation. Deregulation of the finance industry, particularly student loans, budget cuts to higher education, threats to privatize programs in public colleges and universities, and the recession and loss of career and job opportunities for the young have created a crisis for thousands of students.
YDS chapters on campuses are preparing for the week of protest. National YDS has prepared materials and social media for the campus chapters to assist in their work. YDS is growing rapidly in response to chapter participation in Occupy events. Protests will occur on campuses around the country.
The week of educational events and forums, leading to protests and possible occupations on March 1 is co sponsored by YDS and numerous other campus groups.
Young Democratic Socialists is the campus section of Democratic Socialists of America. Maria Svart National Director. You can contact YDS at 212-727-8610.

Hello, this note is from the committee to recall extremist governor Jan Brewer (filing number: RC-01-2012). We are writing to let it be known that our recall is gathering signatures around the state of Arizona. We are hoping that the rest of the nation tomorrow will know that we as a recall exist and are seriously gathering signatures with strong support from the public. In conclusion, we are hoping when the governor is on the program: Meet The Press tomorrow that the rest of the nation and many in our state who do not know of our recall are informed that a large amount of citizens in our beloved state of Arizona do not agree with her abhorrent and cruel actions against the working people, the poor and her shameful behavior toward our president.
